The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) reports that new powerboat sales from 2018 increased 4% over the previous year to 276,000 boats, the highest in 11 years. Overall marine expenditures were up 7% in 2018 at $42 billion USD.
Wakesport boats led the fleet with a 10% increase in 2018, equating to 10,500 new units. Personal watercraft (PWC) – often considered the “gateway” to boat ownership, increased 8%, followed by jet boat sales (4%), and cruisers in the 22ft-32ft range (3%). Outboard-powered boat sales were up by 177,600 units, or 3%.
